ALEXANDRA WEJCHERT RHA (1921-1995)

Born in Poland, Alexandra moved to Ireland in 1965 in an effort to forget her terrible and haunting experiences during the war in Danzig (Gdansk). Working firstly as an architect and artist, Alexandra then moved on to sculpture and her works quickly became emblems of the new Ireland that emerged in the 1970's. She experimented with innovative synthetic materials and embraced a cool, architectural abstraction that gave her work an international flavour. She will be remembered for her many great works housed in public and private collections such as IMMA, The Hugh Lane Municipal Gallery, AIB, UCD & National Self-Portrait Collection, Limerick.
