ARTISTS STATEMENT

The body of work comprises of human forms combined with abstract shapes which are inspired by life situations and emotional states we may find ourselves in.
Reactions to these situations and how we observe ourselves continues to interest me.

Life is a journey of discovery and self discovery.  I feel we should change and evolve as we grow.  Situations and people we meet affect us; we take from their store of life stories and give them part of ours. This exchange and interaction excites me.  I have always felt an urge for personal freedom but we are all curtailed by different aspects of our lives. When I sculpt I feel true liberation.

"Art suspends the reverted eye, the lamented past, the anticipated future:  we enter into our timeless present...  It suspends the desire to be elsewhere...  We stare, sometimes silent, but we cease the restless movement that otherwise characterises our every waking moment...  And thus it undoes the agitated grasping in the heart of the suffering self, and releases us - maybe for a second, maybe for a minute, maybe for all eternity - releases us from the coil of ourselves."

Ken Wilber  'The Eye of Spirit'

Orla de Bri participated in our outdoor sculpture exhibition entitled 'Sculpture & Gardens' this year and is scheduled to have a solo exhibition with the Solomon Gallery in March 2006. The dates of which have yet to be confirmed.
