Margaret Egan
20 - 23 May 2010

Margaret Egan draws from a wide variety of subjects for inspiration for her work and is very talented in both the art of painting and sculpture. The sea is a huge inspiration for a number of her paintings. She lives near Dun Laoghaire, County Dublin overlooking the sea and frequents the west coast of Ireland. Egan’s seascapes are very atmospheric and moody with dark grey skies and angry seas capturing the particular nature of the seas around Ireland.

Margaret also deals with figurative paintings, still lives and landscapes. Her figurative paintings are quite subdued in colour and have an air of mystery about them. In contrast to this Egan creates canvases brimming with vibrant colour when she paints still lifes and landscapes.

Margaret has exhibited in Ireland, Wales, the United States, France and Singapore. She studied under the traditional classical system at the National College of Art & Design from 1963 to 1967 and later with the well-known Breton sculptor, Professor Yann Goulet RHA where she worked as his assistant for 10 years during which time she simultaneously developed her own style of work.
