     JOHN BEHAN RHA
     50 YEARS A-MAKING

         Solomon Fine Art
         at 15 St Stephen’s Green, Dublin 2

         11-17 September 2010

It is fifty years since Ireland’s most eminent senior sculptor JOHN BEHAN first exhibited (and sold!) one of his bronze sculptures at the prestigious Irish Exhibition of Living Art in Dublin in 1960.  To mark the occasion Solomon Fine Art is hosting a highly anticipated anniversary exhibition which will be opened by the Minister for Tourism, Culture & Sport Mary Hanafin TD.   In addition to presenting new bronzes, the exhibition will also feature a selected number of key sculptures from the 1960s, 70s and 80s which have been loaned from eminent private and public collections including AIB Bank and the Crawford Gallery of Art, Cork.

As part of the anniversary celebrations, Behan has also produced five bronzes and a suite of limited edition prints based on his interpretation of Ted Hughes' great epic folk poem ‘Crow’, which was first published in 1972.  The set of five large limited edition colour etchings will be available in a specially designed box, together with selected text from Hughes’ poem.  The prints have been published by Solomon Fine Art in conjunction with Stoney Road Press and will be launched at the private view of the exhibition.
