Melissa O'Donnell: Opening Night

The rain didn't seem to put off the many in attendance at Melissa O'Faherty's solo exhibition on Thursday 4 May 2023 . The gallery was crammed for her very first solo with Solomon and with most of the works 'red-dotted' before the 6pm opening she had lots to celebrate. Three of her children, Eoin, Zoe and Lucy were there to support her before she jetted them off to Paris the following morning to attend the Sothebys Irish Art Sale where she is one of a very small number of important contemporary artists on show.

Ruth Monahan of Appassionata Flowers collaborated with the gallery to create two stunning floral arrangements to accompany this exhibition of botanical paintings and perfumer Marija Aslimoska of Perfumarija provided a delicious fragrance (Radical Rose by Matiere Premiere) to diffuse in the gallery making this exhibition a multi-sensory experience!

In attendance were Patrick T.Murphy, Director of the Royal Hibernian Academy, who opened the proceedings and writer and anthropologist Sara O'Rourke who contributed the opening text to the exhibition catalogue. Also in attendance Newstalk's Dr. Ciara Kelly; writer & critic Niall McMonagle; writer & critic Brian Fallon; film maker Ruairi Fallon; artists Serena Caulfield, Liz O'Kane, James Hanley, Stephanie Hess & Michelene Huggard; photographer Conor Horgan; former Arts Council chair Olive Braiden, Seamus Moran, Justine Keane & Ruth Hussey
