Orla de Brí: Irish Times Weekend Magazine

Gemma Tipton

From her studio in Co. Meath, Orla de Brí's somewhat surrealist sculptures feature figures with hair growing into branches, emerging from apples, clutching fruit, and otherwise getting wild with stylised nature.  They have made their mark around the world too, with commissions from the likes of Hilary Swank and Princess Anne (not that those two are exactly alike of course).  She also has artworks in public places, from the roof of Belvelly Castle, to the grounds of Dublin Castle.  Just open at Dublin's Solomon Gallery, her latest work, Out of the Shadows, explores grief, female power and the hope of hope.
